Reinforcement of British rule (1818-57 AD)

  • India was conquered by the British from 1818 to 1857 AD.
  • Sindh and Punjab were also conquered and Awadh. Central Provinces and many small states were acquired.
  • The conquest of Sindh. due to the hostility of the British and Russians in Europe and Asia, the British feared a Russian invasion through Afghanistan or Persia.
  • To stop Russia, the British government decided to invade Sindh to increase its influence in Afghanistan and Persia and the possibility of commercial use of the Indus River was also the reason for this invasion.
